Supplements
Supplements, which may include natural, chemical, and plant extracts, play a significant role in any cancer therapy whether as an adjuvant to orthodox medical treatment or as a complementary and alternative modality (CAM) on its own. However, not all supplements are created equal. Consumer reports in the U.S. and in England have repeatedly demonstrated that the quality of supplements can vary significantly from one company to another and it is important to find a company that maintains a high standard.
The list below is of those companies I have dealt with and trust. That does not mean there are not others but I cannot make any qualitative judgment about them.
Suppliers
Many nutritional regimes (Metabolic Diet, Gonzalez regimen, Eat Right 4 Your Type, etc.) will recommend their own suppliers and I assume that these are reliable suppliers.
Life Extension Foundation
I have been using their products for many years. They do the latest research into the latest supplementation protocols and are balanced in their views on both orthodox and complementary and alternative modalities (CAM). They have articles and protocols for cancer, both as a therapy and as an adjuvant treatment for chemotherapy and radiation. Their products are excellent and of very high quality. Products can only be ordered online and I recommend shipping them to an address in the U.S. and then having them hand-carried into Egypt. Readings are sophisticated and scientific but the products are listed at the bottom of every page.
Thorne
Also comes highly recommended as vitamin supplier.
Cautionary Note: Unlike foods, higher dose supplementation may interact with conventional treatments, both inhibiting or enhancing treatment. Patients should inform themselves about any such interactions. The Life Extension cancer protocols (lef.org) often include these interactions or get the following book by David S. Tatro, Drug interaction Facts 2007. You can also check Medline’s online database on Herbal and Drug Interactions.
